Photographs of Contemporary American Graffiti

Collection of Photographs of American Freight Train Graffiti.

Group of approximately 100 photographs of graffiti on freight trains across the United States, from the 1990s and early 2000s. Photographs 4 x 6 inches each. Housed in modern album. Very light handling wear, some with handwritten annotations to versos, overall excellent. Circa 1990s-2000s.

This collection of photographs was supposedly taken by practicing graffiti artist and photographer MX68. The images depict graffiti on boxcars, tankers, and hoppers of assorted American freight trains in rail yards and along train lines nationwide. The graffiti shown includes tags, throw-ups, and full-car bombings from dozens of different artists, with several photographs featuring handwritten autographs, signatures, or crew tags to the verso, likely from the artists who created the graffiti in the image. Some of these may provide helpful information and connections to regional or national graffiti networks.

Some of the legible names or signatures include Gore-B, TITS Crew, PAUSE - KEWS, Brock, Kaper, WH DOS, Worms, Prae, and others.

A fascinating archive of a contemporary ephemeral art form in 1990s and 2000s America and an important visual subculture.
