Marco Antonio Montes de Oca (1932-2009) was a prolific and influential Mexican poet and painter. He was awarded the prestigious Xavier Villaurrutia Prize in 1959 for a Latin American writer published in Mexico, for his book of poetry 'Delante de la luz cantan los pájaros', and was a fellow at the Mexican Writers Center and a two-time recipient of the Guggenheim Fellowship. He also founded the Mexican subsidiary of the Pen Club, presided over the Association of Writers of Mexico, and served as editor and advisor of the Coordinación de Humanidades at the Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México.

This work of Montes de Oca's poetry is illustrated by Mexican abstract artist Manuel Felguérez (1928-2020), who also created the cover design and signed it. The interior of the volume contains a photograph of Montes de Oca, a diagram, and an illustration. The first page also contains a handwritten letter from Montes de Oca, dated Feb. 28, 1973.

A little-known volume from two important and influential Mexican artistic figures; as of January 2026, OCLC locates only eight holdings of this work in North American libraries.
