A complete run in 18 issues of the prestigious Soviet architecture journal, issues approximately 60-80 pp., profusely illustrated throughout. Quartos (11 1/4 x 8 3/4 inches). Years 1934-1936 bound in two cloth volumes, one original wrapper bound in at start and end of volume, three issues from 1937 loose in original wrappers. Some light soiling and staining to cloth, some foxing and staining to interior pages, spine splitting to interior of first volume, some scattered rust to staples, owner's signature to title pages, three loose issues with some wear and repairs along spines, light soiling, front cover of final issue detached but present, overall good. A rare complete run of one of the most important and influential architectural journals of the time, printed for members of the Union of Soviet Architects, with text in Russian and captions in Russian and French. The issues featured research projects of members of the academy including blueprints and photographs of ongoing projects, student design projects, architectural news outside of the USSR, articles on the thory of architecture, book reviews, and articles on topics such as the acoustic design of theater ceilings, the use of cement in architecture, the greening of cities, and the planning of capital cities such as Paris and Moscow.
Some of the regular contributors to the journal included Alexander Kuznetsov (1874-1954), Lazar Rempel (1907-1992), Alexei Nekrasov (1887-1950), Evgeniy Lansere (1879-1942), Nikolai Kolli (1894-1956), Ivan Matsa (1893-1974), Arkadiy Arkin (1904-1983) and others. Some of the locations in the USSR featured include Kharkiv, Zaporizhzhia, Baku, Minsk, Sukhumi, Tblisi, and Yerevan, and important ongoing building projects such as the Moscow Metro, the White Sea Baltic channel, the Palace of the Soviets, and the planned industrial settlement at Magnitogorsk were covered, as well as plans for the pavilions at the All-Union Agricultural Exhibition of 1937. This exhibition took place in Moscow in 1937, and was covered extensively in the final issue of this periodical.
