Little British Poetry Magazine

Origins/Diversions. No. 1 (November 1963) through No. 12 (Summer/Autumn 1966) (all published).

A complete collection of the little British poetry magazine. Octavo (8 1/4 x 6 1/2 inches). Original side-stapled printed wrappers on varying colored paper stock. Light soiling, fading, overall excellent. Carshalton, England: The Editors, 1963-1966.

A complete run of 12 issues in 11 fascicules of the short-lived British poetry magazine co-founded and edited by key figures of the British Poetry Revival of the 1960s and 1970s Chris Torrance and Michael J. Dyke. Origins/Diversions grew out of Torrance's circle interested in counterculture, jazz, and American Beat writers. From the letter from the editors from the first issue: "The first point we would like to make is that our contributors are by no means great poets or writers. We do not claim this. We do claim, however, that the section of the community that we represent (and it is an ever-growing one) needs a 'voice' to express its attitudes, actions and verbal aggressions...With this in mind we ask readers who believe that they have something to say to submit their work to us for consideration. Our idea is not to be biased in any way towards any particular direction or style. Therefore we ask for material of as diverse a nature as possible. Being perpetually broke we can offer no form of payment for publication."

Contributors to the magazine included Terry Page, Chris Torrance, Tina Morris, Lee Harwood, Bal Parr, Dave Cunliffe, Michael J. Dyke, Bill Wyatt, Don Bodie, Dave Markan, Barry Taylor, John C. Williams, Julie Harris, Roger Yates, Jack Fletcher, Tony Corner, Peter Smart, Jim Burns, Penelope Shuttle, Con Holland-Skinner, Steve Sneyd, Padraig O Broin, Carol Rossage, and others.

Although the issues are mostly not illustrated, the cover designs are attributed to Colin West, Denis Torrance, and Del Carter. Scarce institutionally.
