Scarce Dada-Influenced Journal

Le Coq. Later: Le Coq Parisien. No. 1 (Avril/Mai 1920) through No. 4 (Novembre 1920). Includes: two additional variants of issue no. 1 (all published).

Six total issues, each comprised of a single sheet printed on colored paper stock and folded to create a pamphlet. Folded sizes range from 10 1/2 x 5 7/8 inches to 15 x 6 3/4 inches. Housed in custom-made portfolio and matching slipcase with title stamped to spine, contents loose as issued. Some light scattered soiling and toning, no. 3 and with small tears along old crease lines, overall excellent condition. Paris: P. Boyer (printed by F. Bernouard), 1920.

Extremely rare complete collection in four issues, plus two variants of issue no. 1, of the important and ephemeral Dada-influenced periodical. Le Coq was probably directed by, but has not been directly attributed to, Jean Cocteau, and was edited by Brunier and P. Boyer.

Each issue was printed on different colored paper stock, each being one large sheet printed on one side only and folded into sections, with bold typographical design and layout, as well as several woodcut illustrations throughout.

These issues feature texts by Georges Auric, Erik Satie, Jean Cocteau, Raymond Radiguet, Francis Poulenc, Blaise Cendrars, Tristan Tzara, Max Jacob, Lucien Daudet, a musical piece by Louis Durey, a poem by Patrick Newman, and sarcastic note on Dada.

This important and ephemeral periodical is by nature very fragile and rarely appears on the market, especially complete. The variants of issue no. 1 in particular are exceedingly scarce.
