Prize.
Single issue of the 1970s zine on the Los Angeles proto-punk scene, 20 pp. Quarto (11 x 8 1/2 inches). Original printed side-stapled wrappers. Some light creasing and minor toning, overall very good. Whittier, California: Prize, n.d. (circa 1979).
Prize covers the proto-punk scene in Southern California in the late 1970s. The issue has a "news and rumours" section which includes notes that Mick and Bianca Jagger had filed for divorce, a lawsuit taken against Peter Frampton by his ex-girlfriend, a mention that Cher and Gene Simmons are just friends, Rod Stewart's wedding, the making of a film with Aerosmith, and George Harrison saying that the Beatles had decided against reuniting, among many gossip items.
Other features in the issue are album reviews, a bio of Frankie Miller in the form of a job application, happy birthday wishes to Jeff Beck and Joey Kramer, "Crazy Fridays with Brent and Phil" of KROQ legend, a short article on The Nitrates, and a story on the punk scene in Boston.
This zine treads the line between more mainstream rock music and more subversive up-and-coming punk musicians. As of July 2024, OCLC does not show any listings of this zine.
