Ciàpa Chilü. Edito dal "Torchio Addominale", diretto dalla Compagnia del "Mi m'ni sghia". Numero Unico del Gruppo Universitario Fascista "Manlio Sonvico".

The only issue of the magazine published by the Manlio Sonvico Fascist student group, (8), 58, (8) pp. Large quarto (13 1/2 x 9 1/2 inches). Original illustrated wrappers with bright and eye-catching Futurist cover design by renowned designer and graphic artist Franco Grignani (1908-1999). Some minor scattered foxing, light toning, soiling and handling wear to covers, overall excellent. Pavia: Tipografia L. Rossetti, 1933.

Manlio Sonvico was a chemistry student who was killed in a clash between fascists and communists in 1924. The Fascist University Group at Pavia in 1926 renamed their group in honor of the martyred Sonvico. "Torchio Addominale" refers to a students' association at Pavia, which put out single-edition publications, of which Ciapa Chilu is one. Many of these publications included the work of Franco Grignani, who started working with the second wave of Futurists by the age of 19.

This issue opens with 8 pages of advertisments on pink paper stock, followed by 58 pages of prose, poetry, and illustration. Some of the various contributions include: a number of caricatures by Grignani with rhyming captions; caricatures by Mario Pazzaglia; a three-page "novella gialla", Romolo e Remo by E. Wallace, printed in yellow ink; a full-page advertisement "Futurismo - Artecrazia Italiana" designed by Grignani; a mounted reproduction of a drawing by Peppino Sacchi; a dramatic work Fam 'Stou Piasè; and writings by Evaristo Bianchi, Angelo Ughetti, Lino Badalla, and others.

Grignani's "Futurismo - Artecrazia Italiana" bears the following text, running around the outside of the page: "Il Futurismo è l'amore del nuovo; l'arte appassionata della velocità; la denigrazione sistematica dell'antico, del lento, dell'erudito e del professorale; è uno sputacchio enorme su tutti i passatismi deprimenti; un colletto d'acciaio contro i torcicolli nostalgici; è una bandiera di gioventù e di forza."
